your teeth...are completely flaccid.

ah, the burn of flaccid teeth after a great date -- Les Savy Fav's Tim Harringon & Kristen Schaal try to keep it slutty, vampirically:

a tumblr with a delightfully sinister twist of schadenfreude -- "THE BROKERS WITH HANDS ON THEIR FACES BLOG."  kind of says it all.

air war

fuuuuuuuck yes. my personal favorites, Crystal Castles @ the metro, saturday nite.

the warnings for epileptics were no joke, lead singer alice screamed her way into a strobe-lit fit as she carried a pulsing globe-strobe around on stage with her, thick eyeliner ricocheting off the whites of her eyes. indeterminable lyrics, gameboy bleeps, thrashing sonic video game blasts, the metro was converted into a freaky-deaky supermario episode where overalls and worker hats were replaced with hoodies, torn tights and converse, gold coins replaced with smash laser strobe light effects.

a delightful surprise was the opener, Lymbyc System, a post-rock electronic outfit that's a just-right-Goldilocks cross between Panda Bear, some of the lighter Fridge tracks and some of the less ambient, more layered Last Days. Some free Lymbyc downloads here

everybody! get together!

so i finally broke down and spent the $13 on a camera card reader, so welcome to a massive back-log of photos from london & happy current timez in chicago. whee.
why yes, i'll take my pbr in a personal pitcher, thank you, ms. kirsten.

quenchers pub, offering surprisingly non-mediocre live acts and beer from around the world -- NAMIBIAN BEERS? sign me right up. then it was across the street to the mutiny for some live punk metal band, middle-aged men sweating out covers of black sabbath & iron maiden, the bassist sporting a freaky-deaky-awesome lucha libre mask.
i was brought into the fray by a sweaty blonde-bearded gentleman, forced to dance & twirl.

below: one of the loveliest sundays in recent memory, spent at brunch at Earwax, thriftin', and taking a massively hungover bike ride crunching through the autumnal delight of the city.

now that's some effective advertising. i am looking up this band RIGHT QUICK.

flesh projections

now here's a technique i haven't come across yet -- mapping projections of landscapes onto the naked form. i love, i love, i love. via syntheticpubes, ms. elle milla. her flickr here, her weblog here.

typographical love for That One

Jonathan Hoefler's first all-typographical poster for the Artists for Obama collection, rather beautifully rendered, I think. His design perfectly captures the goosebumps that creep to the surface of my skin when I read the unassuming power of that particular Obama sound byte.
Wonderful Robert Indiana's contemporary twist on his iconic Love sculpture/prints.

All and more here.

paging doctor house

Dupli Casa in Germany (first two photos) and Sculp(IT)'s "narrowest house in Antwerp" (bottom two) makes me wish that I was even the slightest bit competent in math or drafting so that I could have had a shot at making Architecture a viable occupational option. Instead, I'll just look at the pretty photos and sigh. Bathtub on a rooftop!! Gimme.

also

i can't remember where the hell i found this but i've had it saved on my desktop forever and it makes me giggle every day. la creme de la creme of foreign signage.

in a forest pitch dark

currently holding my breath for october 20th, when One Little Indian releases a new Bjork single Nattura with thom yorke on backing vocals. and the whole indie electronic world explodes into collaborative ectasy.

Nattura's name comes from nattura.info, an icelandic environmental movement. an interesting, if somewhat disjointed, green manifesto from bjork here.

DOG

wehaveadogwehaveadogwehaveadog!

a pitbull so white you can see through her fur to the spots on her delicate pink skin found its way into our friend's backyard this weekend, a little beat up and a lot scared. our beloved Tahti, the dog we've had since i was 11, died this summer and we weren't quite ready to bring another one into the family yet, but this sweet thing happened upon us and we couldn't face the idea of bringing her into a shelter, where she would probably never be adopted because 1) she is not a puppy, and everyone wants a puppy 2) she is a very feared breed.

the vet thinks maybe she was used as a bait dog in dog fights, as she has plenty of teeth marks in her skin, no tags or microchip, and is strong, incredibly strong. but she is seriously the sweetest thing, i think she probably ran away and is now very grateful to be surrounded by love and hot dog-shaped squeak toys. she spooned me last night, literally laid her head on my neck and wrapped her paws around me, breathing gently into my ear. her nose is shaped like a heart. we are dressing her up as michael vick for halloween.

Poster Boy

Welcome to the new Banksy: Poster Boy. His guerilla urban art a crafty collage mash-up of advertisements & posters from the NY subway. Some of it is pretty brilliant & clever and some of 'em miss the mark, but I'm diggin' on these:

cycling trivialities

why mum was frightened of her inbox today. "WHAT IS THAT HAT?" the 50-60 online dating scene is BA-LEAK. i tried scanning through some options for her, but she decided she hated all of them and refused to join. understandable.
